Alexander Spotswood was a Revolutionary War officer from Spotsylvania County, Va.

William Augustin Washington was (1757-1810) was a nephew of George Washington, son of his half-brother Augustine. William A. Washington fought in the Revolutionary War rising to the rank of Brigadier General. After the war he lived in Wakefield and Haywood, Westemoreland County, Va. In 1802, he moved to Georgetown and died there in 1810. William A. Washington's sistet Elizabeth was married to Alexander Spotswood (ca. 1746-1818), a grandson and namesake of the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia and a Revolutionary War veteran.
