Casini was born in New Jersey. Completed four years of college and was working as a draftsman when he enlisted in the Army on August 5, 1943 at Newark, New Jersey. Joined the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colorado where he was assigned to the 85th Infantry Regiment, Company I. Later, served with the 3rd Battalion Headquarters Company of the 85th and with the 10th Mountain Division Headquarters. During combat operations in Italy, received a Bronze Star Medal for his service in the Apennines and Po River battles.
