Historical note: Established in 1902, the Kentucky Normal and Industrial Institute for Colored Persons Board of Trustees was given the power to act in the interest of the school in all matters of property and funds, in the adoption of rules for school government, and in the provision of the school's needs. Members of the board of trustees included the Kentucky Superintendent of Public Instruction as ex-officio chair, three additional persons appointed by the governor, and the president of the institute who was an ex-officio member. Presidents G.P. Russell and Rufus B. Atwood served on the board.

In 1926 the school was renamed Kentucky State Industrial College for Colored Persons.
