Baron Cornelis Rudolphus Theodorus van Krayenhoff, 1758-1840, spent the majority of his life and career as a military engineer specializing in fortifications. The son of a Dutch military engineer, Cornelis was initially discouraged from his father's profession and he earned degrees in science, 1780, and in medicine, 1784. In 1795 he left the medical profession.
