Ashley, Joseph, 1709-1797.
Congregational clergyman.
A graduate of Yale College, Joseph Ashley in 1736 assumed a pastorship in Arlington (later named Winchester) in southwestern New Hampshire (now Vermont). In 1746, during King George's War, the settlement was broken up by the Indians, but Ashley was not dismissed from his post until 1747. That year he was appointed to a ministry in Sunderland, Mass., where he remained until his death in 1797.
