Children's television host. Trained as an occupational therapist, Canadian-born Joy Ringham came to Iowa State College as a special student to study applied art (November 1950-November 1951). While studying at Iowa State, she became interested in the WOI Radio Workshop where she was first introduced to television. She worked as an artist in the WOI Television Art Department.
Producer Dick Hartzell asked Joy to assist him in planning a handicraft section for a new program, and soon cast her as host of "The Magic Window." This early educational children's program featured activities such as handicrafts, songs, news items of interest, and birthday recognition for the children watching the show. Joy co-hosted with Creighton Knau for the 1951-1952 season.
During the first season, 1951-1952, the show was 30 minutes long and aired three times per week. Joy became the sole host of the program during the second season, 1952-1953 when the show was 15 minutes long and aired five days per week. She left the show after her marriage to Alfred Homer (Fritz) Munn on March 27, 1953. Successors as host included Ginny Adams, Sunny Sundquist and Betty Lou (MacVey) Varnum.
