Morgan, Donald P.
As a young graduate of Stanford, Donald Morgan went to Cologne in the 1930s to study German literature. There he worked with the distinguished professor, Ernst Bertram (1884-1957), and became part of the society of students befriended by the noted scholar. Following World War II Bertram lost his teaching position amid charges of collaborating with the Nazi regime. Many came to his defense, including Donald Morgan who was also in Germany after the war.
