Merriam, Jonathan, 1834-1919.
A native of Vermont, Merriam moved with his family to Illinois in 1836. They settled in Tazewell County in 1841. Merriam enlisted as lieutenant colonel of the 117th Illinois Infantry on September 19, 1862 and was mustered out August 5, 1865. After the war he was Collector of Internal Revenue and an Illinois state legislator.
