McMullan, Sanford W.
The Sons of Temperance was established Septebmer 29, 1842 in New York City, as a fraternal and benevolent association that espoused total abstinance. It was organized into National Division with jurisdiction over North America, Grand Divisions with jurisdiction over states or provinces, and Subordinate Divisions with local jurisdiction. -- from Cyclopedia of temperance & prohibition, 1891.
