William W. (Woodward) Brandon, governor of Alabama from 1923 to 1927, was born on 1868 June 5 in Talladega, Ala. to Rev. Frank T.J. (1832-1909) and Carrie (Woodward) Brandon. In 1891 he studied law at the University of Alabama and in 1892 he established his law practice in Tuscaloosa and he was elected city clerk and appointed Justice of the Peace. He was a representative in the Ala. State Legislature 1896-1897 and was reelected for the years 1898-1899. He served in the Spanish-American War. In 1899 he was appointed Adjutant General of Alabama and served until 1906. During this period he also published a journal, The Citizen Soldier. He was State Auditor 1907-1911. In 1911 he was elected Probate Judge of Tuscaloosa Co. He was a Democrat, Methodist, Mason, Knight of Pythias, Odd Fellow, Elk, and a member of the Sigma Epsilon College Fraternity. On 1900 June 27 he married Mrs. Elizabeth (Andrews) Nabors. In 1934 Brandon died.
