The Grand Forks Scotties Curling Club was formed in February, 1955. Three teams played and practiced regularly throughout the 1955 season, the first full season of play. The Club had six rinks and a club membership of 28. In March of 1956, the Club organized their first bonspiel in connection with the men's Spring Bonspiel. Mr. B. Satrom donated the Grand Forks Glass and Paint Travelling Trophy to the Club to encourage competition. It was not until 1958 that the name "Scotties" was submitted for membership approval. In 1960 a new building for the Curling Club's was built at 1125 7 Avenue South. The 1961-1962 season was the first season the Club entered the U.S. Women's Nationals, in which they played into the semi-finals. By 1972 the 17th annual Scotties bonspiel had 32 rinks competing, with participating teams from Canada, Minnesota, Walsh County,Devils Lake and surrounding areas.
