Comings, Elam Jewett, 1812-1894.

Elam Jewett Comings was born on April 22, 1812 in Berkshire, Vermont. He graduated from Oberlin College in 1838 and from the Oberlin Theological Seminary in 1841. After ordination in 1841, he held pastorates in Ohio, Vermont, and Massachusetts. From 1863 to 1864, he worked for the American Missionary Association at the Freedmen's Bureau in Beaufort, North Carolina, educating former slaves. From 1874 until his death in 1894, he lived in Kingsville, Ohio and preached to neighboring parishes. In 1839, Elam Comings married Fanny Woodbury Fletcher. They had two children, Sarah (1840-1926) and Eliza.
