Variant namesC. D. (Charles Douglas) Jackson (1902-1964) was born in New York City, and received his A.B. degree from Princeton University. From 1924 to 1931, Jackson was President of C. D. Jackson & Co. marble and stone import business. In 1931, became the Appointment Assistant to the President of Time Inc., and in 1940, became President of Council for Democracy. From 1942 to 1943, he served as Special Assistant to U.S. Ambassador (Steinhardt) to Turkey, and from 1943 to 44, he was Deputy Chief of P.W.B. and AFHQ. From 1944 to 1945, he served as Deputy Chief of SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters, Allied Expeditionary Force). Also in 1945, he became the Managing Director of Time-Life International. In 1949, Jackson started as the Publisher of Fortune Magazine. From 1951 to 1952, he was President of Free Europe Committee (directing Radio Free Europe), and also became the speech writer for Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952. In 1953, he began serving on the Presidents' Committee on International Information Activities (the Jackson Committee). Also during that time (Feb 16, 1953-Mar 31, 1954), he served as Special Assistant to President for International Affairs. In 1954, he became the U.S. Delegate to Ninth General Assembly of the United Nations. In 1958, Jackson became a speech writer and consultant to President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and in 1960, became publisher of Life Magazine.
