Baylor Hill, Virginia Revolutionary soldier, the youngest son of Col. Humphrey Hill of Hillsborough. On Dec. 4, 1776 he was commissioned cornet of 1st Continental Dragoons (Bland's Light Horse), later receiving promotions of Lieutenant (1777) and Captain (1780). The regiment, organized in the summer of 1776 at Williamsburg with recruits from eastern and northern Virginia as Virginia Light Horse, was adopted into the Continental Army and redesignated as 1st Continental Dragoon Regiment; on Nov. 8m, 1778, it was relieved from the Main Army and assigned to the Southern Department. Hill was captured at Lenud's Ferry (May 6, 1780). He signed his parole on May 20, 1780, and then remained, along with other parolees, at the barracks at Haddrell's Point (Charleston).
