Appointed as Acting Assistant Paymaster in the U.S. Navy on 24 Sept. 1863. Served on the U.S. Monitor Chickasaw, and participated in the passing of the Mobile Bay forts, 5 Aug. 1864, the surrender of Forts Powell, Gaines and Morgan, and in all the minor operations relating to the capture of the Blakeley River forts and the City of Mobile.
