West, Louis Jolyon, 1924-
Variant namesLouis Jolyon "Jolly" West (1924-1999), was chair of UCLA's Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and director of the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute from 1969 through 1989; he was recognized as an expert on brainwashing, cults and terrorism, and known for his research on the psychiatric causes and effects of substance abuse, violence, and social injustice .
