Evans, Nathan George, 1824-1868
Variant namesNathan George "Shanks" Evans (3 Feb. 1824-23 Nov. 1868) was a captain in the 2nd U.S. Cavalry who became a brigadier general in the Confederate States Army; born in Darlington District, S.C.; 1848 graduate of the United States Military Academy; assigned to the 1st Dragoons, with whom he served on the frontier in the West; following surrender, Evans taught school, 1866-1868 in Cokesbury (Greenwood County, S.C.) and in Alabama.
