Born 1895. Served in companies E and G of the 309th Engineers as a Sergeant, 1917. Completed Officer Training School, 1918. Discharged from the U.S. Army with the rank of 1st Lieutenant, 1919. Commissioned a 1st Lieutenant, Infantry Section, in the Officers Reserve Corps, 1919. Promoted to Major and served in various reserve units one of which was the 344th Infantry, 1920-1941. Called to active duty with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1941 and assigned to the War Dept. Inspector General Dept. During World War II, was promoted to Colonel and served as Inspector General in the Far East and Australian theater headquarters. Discharged from active duty, 1946. Served as a Colonel with the 301st Logistical Command until his retirement from the Reserve Corps in 1953. In civilian life, Reed was a treasurer and comptroller in various businesses and organizations, 1921- and was an instructor in business management, 1947-
