The collection consists of financial records of Wilmington Station, Confederate States Navy, kept by Charles Lucian Jones. A second cousin of Robert E. Lee, Jones served as the chief station paymaster for the Savannah Squadron from 1861 to 1863. He was promoted to assistant paymaster of the Confederate States Navy in 1863. He was paymaster first on the CSS North Carolina, then on the CSS Tallahassee; also for Batteries Buchanan, Campbell, and Meares. Wilmington Station, located in North Carolina, served as an important Confederate port, and was the CSA's last open Atlantic port, captured by the Union army February 22, 1865.
