Gillis family.

The Gillis family was apparently from Jamestown, Georgia. Four Gillis brothers served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. The unit rank of W.S. Gillis in unknown, though he apparently had attended (1859) Emory and Henry College, in Virginia. His three brothers were lieutenants; M. Gillis served in Company G, 46th Georgia Infantry Regiment; Neil Gillis and Daniel Gillis served with the 39th Alabama Infantry Regiment. Neil was captured in Nashville, Tennessee. Among them, the brothers served in Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama and participated in the battles of Nashville and Franklin, Tennessee.
