Capt. Francis West (c.1626-1692), who emigrated from Salisbury, Wiltshire, England and settled in Duxbury, Mass., may have been one of the three early DeLaWarr Wests who came to American (i.e., relatives of John West, Lord DeLaWarr). The descendants of West settled in Martha's Vineyard, Barnstable, Boston, and New Bedford, Mass., as well as parts of Rhode Island and Connecticut. Numbered among the descendants were many professional men, including Rev. Samuel West (1730-1807) of New Bedford, Rev. Samuel West (1738-1808) of Needham, Mass., and John West (1770-1827) of Boston.
