Born in Hillsborough, N.H. in 1784, Comm. Capt. 11th Infantry March 12, 1813. Brev. Lt. Col. for victory at battle of Chippewa, July 5, 1814. Brev. Big. Gen. and was Made Col. of 1st Inf. Aug. 28, 1826. Resigned April 23, 1830 to become surveyor of the Port of Boston. Died in Wash., D.C. Feb. 23, 1850. (from Appleton's Cyclopedia of Am Biog., v.4, p.154) (blue index cards)
