Born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Hansen studied at the Teknisk Skole and the Royal Academy of Art (1903-1910) while working as a journeyman painter. Arrived in Chicago in 1914, and moved to Pasadena in 1925. Taught at Otis Art Institute, the Chouinard Art Institute (1937-1940), Pasadena City College, and the Pasadena School of Fine Arts (1952).
