Murdoch, John, 1852-1925
Variant namesJohn Murdoch (1852-1925) was trained as a zoologist at the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University. He went on to spend a year as a professor of Zoology at the University of Wisconsin beginning in 1880. From 1881-1883, he served as naturalist on part of the Polar Expedition to Point Barrow Alaska. Later, he became a librarian at the Smithsonian Institution (1887-1892). In 1896, he began working as an assistant cataloger at the Boston Public Library, a post which he kept until 1923.
