John L. Peytavin was an attorney, author, composer, and planter of Ancient Domain Plantation, in St. James Parish, Louisiana, and New Orleans. Peytavin attended Jefferson College in Convent, Louisiana. In addition to law, his interests included history, poetry, music, theater, politics, and the history of Jefferson College. Peytavin participated as an attorney in the nationally known Langles Estate case, which involved an unusual technical problem for establishing succession.
