In the 1960s, the rapid increase in student population at Indiana University led to a construction boom in student housing. Student population nearly doubled between 1961 and 1965 and as a result four undergraduate student housing units were completed between 1963 and 1966 and included Fee Lane West II (Briscoe Quadrangle), Forest Quadrangle and Willkie Quadrangle. Additional new construction in the 1960s and 1970s included Eigenmann Hall and various married student accommodations including Campus View Apartments and Tulip Tree House.

Construction on Fee Lane West II and Forest Quadrangle was completed in 1966. Both Fee Lane and Forest Quadrangle consisted of three buildings; a dining hall, an 11 story men’s dorm, and an 11 story women’s dorm. Opened in the fall of 1964, Wendell L. Willkie Quadrangle is located at 150 North Rose Street. It is named after Wendell L. Willkie, a politician and graduate of Indiana University. Located at Tenth and Union Streets, Eigenmann Hall was completed in 1968 and was designated as graduate student housing. It is named for Dr. Carl H. Eigenmann, the first dean of the Graduate School. Campus View Apartments were completed in 1962 and are located at 800 North Union Street. These apartments were designed for married students and consisted of 252 two bedroom units. Tulip Tree House, consisting of 223 units for married students, opened in 1965. It is located at 2451 E. Tenth Street.

For the projects represented in this collection, the Halls of Residence employed the Francis Macomber Co. of Indianapolis.
