John Taylor Eastlick was born on April 28, 1912 in Norris, Mont. After attending Arizona Teachers College (A.B., 1934), he began working in the circulations department of the Denver Public Library (1939-1940) and received an M.A. in Library Science from the University of Denver (1940). Eastlick later served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and became chief of the library division, Veterans Administration, Denver, Colo. (1946-1948). In 1948, he was appointed Denver Public Library's first personnel officer, later assistant to the city librarian. Eastlick became city librarian in 1951. After retirement from DPL in 1969, he worked as a professor at the University of Denver's Graduate School of Librarianship and Information Management. Eastlick wrote extensively for publications and held numerous positions with professional library organizations and local community groups. He died on January 18, 1990.
