Bobby Crim was born on December 10, 1931. He served in the United States Navy from 1950-54 and earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from the University of Michigan. He taught in the Davison Community Schools in Davison, Michigan, from 1959 to 1960 and then in the Flint Community Schools in Flint, Michigan from 1961 to 1964. He followed this with a two-year term as a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives. Following this term, Crim served on both the Davison City Council and on the Genesee County Board of Supervisors from 1967-1968. From 1969 to 1972, he served as executive secretary to the House Democratic Caucus. In 1972, he was again elected to the Michigan House of Representatives. He became the majority floor leader in 1973 and was elected Speaker of the House in 1975, 1977, 1979 and 1981.
