Kelton, Elmer
Writer, editor. Born 1926 on the Five Wells Ranch in Andrews County, Texas. His family moved to the McElroy Ranch near Crane, Texas, where his father became ranch manager. Kelton attended the University of Texas (1942-1944, 1946-1948), receiving a B.A. in journalism. Began writing fiction, publishing his first story in "Range Romances" in 1948. While also working as agricultural editor on the San Angelo "Standard Times" (1948-1963); editor of "The Ranch Magazine" (1963-1968); and associate editor of "Livestock Weekly" (1968-1990), Kelton has continued to write award-winning western fiction. His novels include "The Time It Never Rained" (1973); The Good Old Boys (1978); The Wolf and the Buffalo (1980); and "The Eyes of the Hawk (1981, as Lee McElroy).
