George W. Stark was a Detroit newspaperman, a feature writer for the Detroit News. During the mid-1920s, he wrote theater reviews. Anne Campbell, wife of George W. Stark, wrote poetry for the Detroit News and was a public speaker in various forums.

George W. Stark was born in Detroit on Feb. 22, 1884. He graduated from Eastern High School in 1903 and attended the University of Michigan. In 1905 Stark began working for the Detroit Free Press, transferring to the Detroit News four years later, where he worked as a reporter, drama critic, city editor and, from 1938 to his retirement in 1958, columnist. His column "Town Talk" dealt mainly with Detroit history and lead to his participation in the city's historical activities. On Aug. 28, 1915, George Stark married Anne Campbell and they had three children. He became the first president of the Detroit Historical Commission in 1943. Stark retired from the Detroit News on Aug. 1, 1958, but continued to write occasional pieces for the paper. He authored two books, "In Old Detroit" and "City of Destiny", both histories of the city. He died in Detroit on Jan. 29, 1966.
