Frances Smith Foster, an African American professor of women's and African American literature and culture, taught at Emory from 1994-2009. Her books include 'TIL DEATH OR DISTANCE DO US PART: LOVE AND MARRIAGE IN AFRICAN AMERICA (2010), LOVE AND MARRIAGE IN EARLY AFRICAN AMERICA (2007), WITNESSING SLAVERY: THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE ANTE-BELLUM SLAVE NARRATIVE (1994), and WRITTEN BY HERSELF: LITERARY PRODUCTION BY AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN, 1746-1892 (1993). She has also edited many works, including MINNIE'S SACRIFICE, SOWING AND REAPING, AND TRIAL AND TRIUMPH: THREE REDISCOVERED NOVELS BY FRANCES ELLEN WATKINS HARPER (2000).
