Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. Yearly Meeting Office Committee.

Hide Profile

In 1911 the Committee on First-day Schools proposed to Yearly Meeting the establishment of a central bureau or office to increase the efficiency of committee work. A General Secretary was appointed. The Committee on the Central Bureau also contracted with Friends General Conference to transact the office business of its Committee on First-day Schools. In addition to the work of the four participating committees, the Central Bureau also sent notices of meetings and handled other clerical work. In 1924, the Central Bureau Committee was instructed to take charge of field work as well. After the Reunification of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting in 1955, the committee continued, but its name was changed to Committee on the Office of the Yearly Meeting in 1957. Its responsibilities were largely assumed by the Finance and Personnel Committees after 1970.
