Born in New York City, Enloe received her doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1967. Since 1972 she has been professor of government at Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts; in 1980-82 she served as department chair. A member of the university's Sexual Harassment Task Force, 1980-81, Enloe gathered these papers to document the issues and lawsuits arising from charges of sexual harassment directed by sociology professor Ximena Bunster against a fellow faculty member, Sidney Peck. Enloe was a member of the committee for fairness to Ximena Bunster.
