Kofman, Abraham, 1903-1986
Abraham Kofman was born in Brockton, Mass. In 1939, he became publisher of the Alameda Times-Star. Ten years later, he sold the paper, but he bought it back in 1960. At one time, he also published the San Leandro Morning News and the Fremont News Register. He was an active member of the Democratic Party; served as a member of the California Highway Commission; and was a past director of the California Newspaper Publishers Association. In addition, he was a member of the Alameda-Contra Costa Jewish Welfare Federations; B'nai B'rith; the Elks; the Freemasons; the Shrine; the Eagles; and the Knights of Pythias.
