Sir Frederic George Kenyon (1863-1952) was born in London on 15 January 1863. He was a scholar at Winchester, and attended New College, Oxford, where he obtained a first class degree in literae humaniores in 1886. Kenyon joined the Manuscripts Department of the British Museum in 1889. He became Assistant Keeper in 1898, and was the Museum's Director, 1909-1930. He was made a Fellow of the British Academy in 1903, and served as its President, 1917-1921, and Secretary, 1930-1949. He died in Oxted on 23 August 1952.
