Daniel Malmed is the son of Leon Malmed, a Russian emigré who was a comrade and lover of anarchist Emma Goldman. The family of Daniel's wife, Bertha (Bernstein) Malmed, were also comrades of Goldman, who stayed with them when visiting Montreal.
