Born July 6, 1903 in Fayette, Alabama to James Alfred and Athea McKelvey Cook; orphaned and raised by relatives in Columbus, Miss.; educated in the public schools, Mississippi A and M College, and Columbia University; superintendent of schools; college teacher; president Mississippi Southern College (1945-1954); publisher Who's Who in American Education (1926-1968); founder of Southeastern Life Insurance Company (1957-1969); member Mississippi State Board of Trustees of Institutions of Higher Learning (1968-1977); died March 6, 1979.
