Gail Curtis was born on Nov. 24, 1887, in Napoleon, Mich. She attended Olivet College and the University of Michigan. She worked briefly as a teacher before attending a course on library science and becoming a cataloger at the University of Michigan library before transferring to the Library of Michigan in 1914. She became the head of the reference section in 1919. She was president of the Michigan Library Association from 1925-26. She retired from the library in 1957, after 43 years of service. She died Nov. 10, 1974, in Flint, Mich. at the age of 86.
