Mount Carmel Lutheran Church (Portland, Or.)
Mt. Carmel was begun in the fall of 1950. Initial survey work proved positive and a group began meeting in Collinsville School shortly after. A first unit, which included the sanctuary and three classrooms, was secured by the winter season for under $10,000. The second phase, including two more classrooms, a kitchen, office space, and an enlarged entry-way, came soon after. The church grew steadily until the late 1960s, when there was a period of decline. The church sought part-time pastoral service for several years, and was back to full-time leadership by the 1980s.
