Hide Profile

Phillip Johnson was an Astoria merchant. He and his wife, Mary Ann, were early settlers in Oregon (1853). They mortgaged two city lots in Astoria to secure a loan of $475 from J.W. Munson (January 1, 1865). Joel Wilson Munson (1818-1899) was a carpenter who came to Astoria in 1852 and was actively involved in the construction of many of that town's earliest buildings. He farmed oysters for a few years and operated Cape Hancock lighthouse (1865-1877). Munson also repaired an old boat that he used to rescue a number of shipwrecked persons at the mouth of the Columbia River.
