In May 1999 Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack signed into law the Iowa Freedom Trail Program in which the state's Department of Cultural Affairs was to mark and commemorate Iowa's role in the underground railroad. The newspapers and county histories in the the collections of the State Historical Society of Iowa were searched for relevant material. These research files represent the results of that search.
