William Williams migrated to America around 1750 from Ireland. His son, Samuel Williams (1786-1859) came to Ohio in 1809 and to Cincinnati in 1829. He was the Assist. Surveyor General of the Northwest Territory for 40 years. He was active in the Methodist Episcopal Church, creating the Methodist Almanac and Ladies' Repository, and housing itinerant ministers and their families. His son, Samuel Wesley Williams (1827- ) taught at Ohio Wesleyan University, Worthington Female Seminary (Ohio) and McKendree College (Lebanon, Ill.). He worked for the Methodist Book Concern after leaving his teaching career. (For further information see the finding aid.).
