Active member of the Republican Party in Iowa; resident of Spirit Lake, Iowa. Vergene Donovan has been active in her church and the community of Spirit Lake by serving on the boards of numerous local organizations, especially the American Cancer Society. She is a long-time member of the Iowa Federation of Republican Women and has served as editor of its newsletter, The Iowa indicator. She has been active in recruiting Republican candidates to run for office and in helping to steer their campaigns, both locally and statewide.
In 1995 Governor Terry Branstad presented her with the John McDonald Award for outstanding service to the Republican Party.
