John Remele was born in 1746 at Half-Hollow-Hills, Long Island, N.Y. John served as a minister and chaplain in the Revolutionary War. He was a Congregational Minister when he moved to Orwell, Vt. He later moved to Whiting, Vt. before he died on July 28, 1798. He had four children, Jonathon, Samuel H., Stephen W., and Polly. Samuel H. Remele lived in Whiting, Vt., and had three children: Clarissa, Stephen, and William R. Not much is known about the family. William R. was born in Whiting, Vt. in 1829 and died in Middlebury in 1906. William and his son Charles were merino sheep breeders in the west part of Middlebury on what is now known as the Fifield Border Acres dairy farm. William built the house he lived in using bricks, marble, and slate from surrounding Vermont. William's wife was Julia Perkins, a descendent of Wesley Perkins, who was an early settler of Orwell, Vt. Their two children, Charles M. and George H. both were born and died in Middlebury. Miriam Remele and Carol Remele were the children of George H. Remele. Samuel H. Remele's son, Stephen, graduated from Middlebury College, and his son, William Arthur Remele, also graduated from Middlebury College in 1876.
