Keith George Sebelius was born in 1916 in Almena and grew up in Norton, Norton County, Kansas. He served in both World War II and the Korean War and was active in the American Legion. During the 1950s Sebelius served on the local city council and as mayor, becoming active in the Republican Party; he also served two terms in the Kansas Senate. In 1968 he ran for the U.S. House of Representatives and won the seat formerly held by Bob Dole. He held his position in Congress from 1968 until 1980, when he did not run for reelection. During his tenure in the House, he focused especially on agricultural issues. Keith Sebelius died in 1982 at the age of 66.
