G. Oscar Russell (1890-1962) was a professor of speech and language in the United States.
G. Oscar Russell was born 21 November 1890. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1916 with a bachelors degree in German. He married Oertel Rich in 1917. He served in both Military Intelligence and the Aviation Sector during World War I. He was a professor at Columbia University, University of Utah, University of Chicago, and Ohio State University. He helped establish the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in 1925 and was the editor of the Journal of Speech Disorders from 1935 to 1942. He served as the Chairman of the Division of Phonetics and director Language Labs of Ohio State University between 1930 and 1941. He was a known critic of agnostics, especially those within the University of Utah and Brigham Young University faculties. He died 19 March 1962.
