Ryrie, Granville, Sir, 1865-1937
Variant namesSoldier. Commissioned second lieutenant in the 1st Australian Horse 1898. Served in the South African War, initially as a captain, with the 6th (New South Wales) Imperial Bushmen from May 1900 to June 1901. Severely wounded September 1900 at Wonderfontein. Ryrie saw action in Rhodesia, the Transvaal, and Cape and Orange River colonies.

Major-General Hon. Sir Granville de Laune Ryrie, K.C.M.G., C.B., V.D. (N.S.W.) was M.L.A., N.S.W. for Queanbeyan 1906-1910, became Major-General Commanding A.I.F. in Egypt during World War I. Member of the House of Representatives 1911-1927, Assistant Minister for Defence 1919-1922 and High Commissioner for Australia in London 1927-1932.
