Thomas Michael Bello (Tommy) was born in Raleigh, N.C. From March 1970 to March 1971, he was the student body president at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In May of 1970, campus life was disrupted by student unrest over the war in Vietnam and specifically the killing of four students at Kent State University. Bello was instrumental in guiding the student body and communicating with the faculty and administration during this time.
