Stengren, George L.

Stengren was born on January 12, 1928. He earned a B. A. and a M. A., both in Philosophy from St. John's University, and a Ph. D., also in Philosophy, from Fordham University. Stengren was hired as a professor in the Philosophy Dept. at Central Michigan University (CMU) on Aug. 15, 1970. He taught a variety of classes there and served as Dept. Chair beginning in 1973. During his academic career, Prof. Stengren co-wrote a book on Kierkegaard and co-edited a book on philosophy. He also translated Dr. Niels Thulstrup's thesis (1967), Kierkegaard's Relation to Hegel, which was published by Princeton Univ. Press in 1980. Prof. Stengren retired from CMU on Aug. 15, 1997. Since 1970, he has lived in Mount Pleasant (Mich.). (This information is from the finding aid.)
