Faith Lutheran Church (Leavenworth Wash.)
The small congregation which met in March of 1908 called themselves simply “Leavenworth Lutheran Church.” They were a mix of German Lutherans from Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota. In 1907 the Wisconsin Mission Board had answered the request for a pastor by sending Martin Raasch from Nebraska. In 1908 a Ladies’ Aid had been formed and children attended Sunday School. Services were held twice a month, in German. 1909 has been mentioned as the year when the church was formally organized, but there is no actual record of this. The congregation purchased a parsonage in 1922. The 1963 LIFE Survey shows that the church was closed from 1943-1948, yet the Wisconsin Synod shows that two pastors served during that this time. The church reorganized in 1948 as Faith Lutheran, becoming independent of the Wisconsin Synod and joining the ALC. In 1961 the congregation decided to temporarily join with Cashmere. This continued until 1974, when the church re-opened. In 1984 Faith Lutheran voted to become an independent parish. Over the years they have been encouraged and assisted by Grace Lutheran of Cashmere, often sharing a pastor.
